Things that go "BEEP" in the night....

It was my second night back on the rock and I had just finished watching a movie with my dad (a terrible movie, I might add - my mom would not have approved of our cinematic choice). He had to work the next morning, so he said he was going to go check his email and go to bed. I said good night and continued to watch the remainder of the "Jay Leno Show" on TV.

At around 11:30pm or so, I heard this "BEEP" from the other room. Strange, I thought to myself, and got up to investigate. My first instinct was to check our microwave oven. Long story short about the microwave: it's one half of a oven/microwave combo that was installed when my parents built the house. Needless to say, over the years, the microwave had become temperamental and would start wigging out the electricity was left connected to it for too long. This is why we have to flip the breaker switch for the oven/microwave when we want to use it. :) I digress...

I got up to investigate the "BEEP". Thinking it was the microwave, I wandered into the kitchen. I flipped on the kitchen light and peered at the microwave. I saw nothing but blackness where the numbers of the clock should appear - the microwave was off. Odd, I thought, but went back to my seat on the couch and continued to watch TV. About a 1/2 hour later, I heard the beep again; this time I chose to ignore it, thinking it would just go away on its own (yeah, right - it didn't). I wandered to the bathroom about 1:30am and began to get ready for bed. As I was brushing my teeth, I heard the beep again. Thinking it was just a smoke detector - or something of that nature - with a low battery, I went off to bed and told myself I'd figure it out in the morning.

The next morning, I woke up around 7:30am and almost immediately heard the beep again. I decided that showering first would hone my detective skills, so I set off to do that before beginning my investigation. After my shower, I came to the conclusion that I couldn't possibly do any detective work on an empty stomach, so I set off to make some breakfast first. After all that was done, I was sitting at the dining table, sipping my tea, when I heard the BEEP again. I got up and went to the "electronics corner" and picked up my mom's cell phone. Thinking to myself that there was no way in hell that her cell phone could be making that noise, I pressed a button to view the screen. When I pressed the button, I noticed it made the same BEEP I had been hearing all night - of course, I was more shocked that the phone was actually on! The screen staring back at me said "New Voicemail Message". I was shocked - first by the phone being ON, then by the voicemail message. With slight hesitation, I pressed the "dial voicemail" button and turned on the speakerphone. Instead of going to voicemail, it started ringing. After the 4th ring, someone's voicemail picked up...MY voicemail! I hung up, thinking I had just pressed the wrong button and not actually dialed my mom's voicemail (thinking I hit "redial" instead). Nope...not the case. I had actually pressed the correct button to dial my mom's voicemail, but it had mysteriously connected to my cell phone instead.

At that point, I glanced over at my mom's photograph and said, "What are you trying to say? Are you trying to tell me something?" If her photo could have smiled right then and there, I think she would have. I think she would have winked, too. Needless to say, I haven't heard the BEEP since that night, no more mysterious "voicemail messages". I think she was just trying to say hello.

Mom, next time, you can try emailing too. *wink* :)

Trojans Fail to 'Fight On' in Seattle...

Story on Yahoo! Sports

Trojans fail. Did they not learn from last year's win over Ohio State? You can't just completely disregard your next opponent. Last year = Oregon State. This year = Washington Huskies. Over-confidence does absolutely nothing for you, Carroll's Crew. Maybe you will learn in time for your big non-conference game next year - way to lose in your Pac-10 opener.

Silly Kitteh...

For my FB friends, this may be duplication of a link I've already posted. But it's just so funny and cute! Who would'a thunk those noises would come out of such a little kitteh!

Healthcare Debate = Funny??

Sometimes, it's good to take a step back and look at serious topics from another perspective...

==+==+==+==+==+==+==+==+==+==+==

The American Medical Association has weighed in on the new Obama health care proposals.

The Allergists voted to scratch it, but the Dermatologists advised not to make any rash moves. The Gastroenterologists had sort of a gut feeling about it, but the Neurologists thought the Administration had a lot of nerve.

The Obstetricians felt they were all laboring under a misconception. Ophthalmologists considered the idea shortsighted. Pathologists yelled, "Over my dead body!" while the Pediatricians said, "Oh, Grow up!"

The Psychiatrists thought the whole idea was madness, while the Radiologists could see right through it. Surgeons decided to wash their hands of the whole thing. The Internists thought it was a bitter pill to swallow, and the Plastic Surgeons said, "This puts a whole new face on the matter...."

The Podiatrists thought it was a step forward, but the Urologists were pissed off at the whole idea. The Anesthesiologists thought the whole idea was a gas, and the Cardiologists didn't have the heart to say no.

In the end, the Proctologists won out, leaving the entire decision up to the assholes in Washington

Yes, It's True...I DO Rock :D

*applause*applause*

Thank you, thank you, ladies and gents...I am completely honored to have been voted Yelp's San Fernando Valley ROTD (Review of the Day)! :)

When I logged into my Yelp account this evening, I noticed that I had 4 "hot stuff" compliments waiting for me. I thought, "Hmm...odd. What are the chances that all 4 would be the same compliment type?" Little did I know...there was a ROTD surprise waiting for me.

Hot stuff, boys and girls. I DO, in fact, rock.

Thank you, very much...GOOD NIGHT LOS ANGELES!

Hed Kandi Remixes - 'Man in the Mirror"

I'm all for not letting the news stations/local newscasters not talk about Michael Jackson, or the "controversy" surrounding his death, anymore. *sigh* I'm as sick of hearing about it as the next person, but Hed Kandi does a good remix... :)

What a Sad, Sick World Sometimes...

http://www.cnn.com/2009/CRIME/06/15/florida.cat.killer.arrest/index.html

I find it extremely hard to comprehend how another human being could even THINK of doing what some 19-year-old kid in Florida did to 19 cats. I'm no extremist, but I am one that will fight for "those without voices" to the best of my ability. To mutilate, not just kill, animals is beyond wrong and this kid has got some seriously effed up brain cells in that noggin of his.

R.I.P. Tommy the cat and the 18 other pets that were mutilated by this sicko.

Procreating Next Door...

Girls Next Door's Kendra Wilkinson is preggers!
I'm not sure that Kendra Wilkinson having offspring is something the world is ready for. Apparently she announced/confirmed it on her blog after a storm of rumors went swirling around Hollywood this past week.

I don't have any other opinion...and I'm actually speechless!

Read it on People.com: http://www.people.com/people/article/0,,20284248,00.html

Matt Leinart = MMA Fighter? HUH?

Matt "Ballroom Dancing" Leinart says he is looking for an "edge - something that is going to separate him from the other players on the field." Hmm...maybe start by not losing your quarterbacking job to a 38-year-old NFL veteran in the first place...then you wouldn't have to beat the crap out of him to get your job back. :)

I love the smell of a good controversy...

Breaking news today on ESPN: Tim Floyd has resigned as the Trojan's head basketball coach.

What gives? I thought there was no controversy to be had here? Hmm...I guess one can't expect much from a head coach that gives his team the rah-rah locker room speech, then gets on a plane less than 24 hours later to interview for another head coaching job in Arizona.

Looks like the fight is off, USC...

Doodle for Google Winner

So...Christin Engelberth is the winner of 2009's "Doodle 4 Google" contest. This year's theme was "What I Wish For The World". It's cute...but it still doesn't beat out the "Very Hungry Catepillar" logo Google designed for the birthday of the book. :)

Google Goats...No Kidding Around

I was catching up on some of last week's episodes of "Chelsea Lately" this weekend, one of the episodes mentioned a company here in California that is going green...to the extreme. Google has some large fields at their Mountain View, CA headquarters and has apparently hired (well, rented) goats to mow them. Hmm...interesting way of "going green"!

Pork Flucopalypse in Hawaii

The Honolulu Star Bulletin reports that there are three probable cases of the Swine Flu...ahem, "H1N1 virus"...in Hawaii. I thought locals didn't go anywhere except Vegas and Disneyland!! :)

How to Make Any Website Better...

...DUH, with BACON, of course! I had forgotten about this website and just found it again tonight! With the addition of Bacolicio.us, you can make any website (instantly) better!

You can play a trick of your friends - this works particularly well if they are responsible for their company's website or own their own - by "baconizing" their website. :D

Check out how the bacon-ness works, here: http://bacolicio.us/

Simply type out a URL (example: http://www.rent.com) and add the Bacolicious link to the end of the URL (example: http://www.rent.com/http://bacolicio.us/).

I tell you...it's fantastically baco-riffic!

(more so than this baco-riffic attempt...not sure about the Diet Coke with Bacon product...)

The Very Hungry Google Logo

Yesterday, Google changed their logo in honor of the 40th anniversary of Eric Carle's book, "The Very Hungry Catepillar". I haven't decided whether or not I think it's better than their logo celebrating Dr. Seuss's birthday on March 2nd...

Hmm...Hungry Catepillar or Dr. Seuss?

Take Down the Bird Feeder...

Interesting forwarded email I received...bird feeder analogy - entertaining and has a point!

==+==+==+==+==+==+==+==+==+==

I bought a bird feeder. I hung it on my back porch and filled It with seed. What a beauty of a bird feeder it is, as I filled it lovingly with seed. Within a week we had hundreds of birds taking advantage of the continuous flow of free and easily accessible food.

But then the birds started building nests in the boards of the patio, above the table, and next to the barbecue.

Then came the poop. It was everywhere: on the patio tile, the chairs, the table .. Everywhere!

Then some of the birds turned mean. They would dive bomb me and try to peck me even though I had fed them out of my own pocket.

And others birds were boisterous and loud. They sat on the feeder and squawked and screamed at all hours of the day and night and demanded that I fill it when it got low on food.

After a while, I couldn't even sit on my own back porch anymore. So I took down the bird feeder and in three days the birds were gone. I cleaned up their mess and took down the many nests they had built all over the patio.

Soon, the back yard was like it used to be.... Quiet, serene and no one demanding their rights to a free meal.

Now let's see. Our government gives out free food, subsidized housing, free medical care, and free education and allows anyone born here becomes an automatic citizen.

Then the illegal came by the tens of thousands. Suddenly our taxes went up to pay for free services; small apartments are housing 5 families; you have to wait 6 hours to be seen by an emergency room doctor; your child's 2nd grade class is behind other schools because over half the class doesn't speak English.

Corn Flakes now come in a bilingual box; I have to 'press one' to hear my bank talk to me in English, and people waving flags other than 'Old Glory' are squawking and screaming in the streets, demanding more rights and free liberties.

Maybe it's time for our government to take down the bird feeder. If you agree, pass it on; if not, continue cleaning up the poop!

Beware of the Facebook Worm...

Just read about this on an Orlando Sentinel tech blog...

http://blogs.orlandosentinel.com/etan_on_tech/2009/03/facebook-worm.html

According to the post, this "Koobface" worm variant is posing as your friends. What it will do is send you a message, asking if you want to see a video of them or that they have a video you are in.

Once prompted, a site will open that looks suspiciously like a YouTube page...it's not! Keep your guard up, as this worm is attacking other social networking sites as well - MySpace, Bebo, Friendster and Hi5.

Eight Months To Go...

Now that Superbowl XLIII is over and the Pittsburgh Steelers are officially the NFL champions, it means that the 2008-2009 football season has come to an end. *sigh* Dangit, that means that I have to put up with 8 months of TV without football. I will say that there are a few things that help to fill the void: March Madness, NBA Finals (although they won't be as fun if the Lake Show isn't there to represent)...but that's about it!

Now only if the 49ers would have a good season next year...

Hey, a girl can dream, can't she? :)

Wintery Script Ohio...

My brother-in-law sent this video to me this morning - this is one die-hard Buckeyes fan!

Interesting Nike Ad...

Apparently Tyler has been training with Spidey...she's got some killer moves that I think Jackie Chan can rip off in his next flick.
